Since childhood, Michelle has always led an active lifestyle. She loved the outdoors and competed in high school basketball and soccer. Not only was Michelle named “Most Valuable Player,” but she was also named “Oakville Scholar Athlete” highlighting her combined athletic and academic excellence.
At Truman University, Michelle decided to pursue a degree in Exercise Science because she believes the human body to be the most incredible machine. “It’s fascinating to see what the body is capable of,” says Michelle. She wanted to gain an understanding of the behind-the-scenes training designed for athletes to improve performance so she pursued an internship with the Athletics Department at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. During the internship, Michelle discovered her passion for helping clients develop healthier lifestyles become more fit. The internship motivated her to pursue a Master’s Degree in Applied Health and Sports Science.
While completing her masters degree at Northwest Missouri State University, she worked at St. Anthony’s Medical Center Cardiac Rehabilitation Facility and helped patients minimize symptoms and increase confidence post suffering a cardiac event. She found the face-to-face interaction incredibly rewarding, not to mention the impact she made on her patients’ lives.
As a personal trainer, Michelle strives to be a key player to help clients meet health and wellness goals building a relationship of trust, a partnership. “My clients are capable of anything they put their mind to, no matter their age or how daunting the goals may seem… Living well isn’t just a hobby, it’s a lifestyle. An investment in your health today produces a better quality of life for tomorrow,” notes Michelle.
Her years of study and experience have provided Michelle with a comprehensive knowledge on how the body systems work and how they affect one another, especially when not functioning properly. Michelle is qualified to work with a number of diverse populations. “I especially like working with people who think their body is no longer capable of doing what it could while in their twenties!” She most enjoys the look of surprise when her clients begin to perform tasks or reach a level of fitness they never thought possible.
